Christmas Treats - Krispie Trees
Does anybody else just want it to be December already?! Since I'm in Christmas mode I thought I'd attempt these super cute (and kinda fiddly) Christmas trees.
I was kind of reluctant to post this because, as you can see, with the New Zealand summer weather - my icing melted really quick! Grrr.
You will need:
- 6 cups of ordinary Ricies cereal
- 3 tbsp of butter
- Green food colouring
- 10.5 oz of marshmallows
- A pack of miniature Reese’s Cups
- 1/3 cup of M&M Minis
- Candy stars - anything edible you can find!
- 3 cups of icing sugar
- 3 tbsp of milk
- 3 tbsp of glucose syrup
Directions:
- Line a tray with baking paper.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
- Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted.
- Add enough food coloring to make mixture green.
- Remove from heat.
- Add the cereal and stir until cereal is well coated.
- Allow to set around 3-4 minutes.
- Butter (or wet) your hands and form mixture into cone shapes.
- Place cones onto prepared pan.
- Allow to cool and firm up.
- Mix icing sugar, milk and glucose syrup in a bowl until smooth.
- Transfer to piping bag to pipe onto your Christmas trees.
- Pipe like a garland around each tree.
- Space M&M minis like ornaments onto icing.
- Dab some icing on top of tree to act as glue and attach your star.
- Place a Reese’s upside down on pan. Pipe icing on it and place tree on top.
- Allow to set before serving.
Oooh and if you're anything like me - make sure you've got extra Reese's Pieces on hand. I ate most of them while I was baking haha.
Enjoy! X
